Praised by Gramophone for the strength of his musical personality and the clarity of his interpretative vision, Gabriele Strata is distinguished by an exceptionally personal and reflective approach to the piano repertoire, often shaped through thoughtfully curated programs. In a recent high-profile engagement, he stepped in at short notice for Maria João Pires to perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 27 with Kent Nagano, in a performance that received critical acclaim.

Recent highlights include a solo recital at the Festival International de Piano de La Roque d’Anthéron and a residency at Milan’s Società del Quartetto, where he was protagonist of a Schubertiade encompassing a solo recital, a chamber music performance, and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano.
In 2025, he was appointed artist-in-residence for three years by Amici della Musica di Firenze, with regular performances in recital and chamber music at the Teatro della Pergola.

A prizewinner at several international competitions, including the Concours International de Musique de Montréal, the Rio de Janeiro International Piano Competition, and Premio Venezia, Strata has appeared internationally across Europe, the Americas, and Asia at major venues including the Berliner Philharmonie, Wigmore Hall and Barbican Centre in London, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Sala Verdi in Milan, Maison Symphonique in Montréal, Sala São Paulo and Yokohama’s Minato Mirai Hall.

His repertoire spans from the Baroque to contemporary music, reflecting a broad and curious musical outlook. He has a particular affinity for curating recital programs that place works in dialogue, revealing unexpected connections and offering fresh perspectives on the piano repertoire.
Schubert has become a particular focus of his recent artistic work, alongside an active engagement with contemporary music. This curiosity has also taken him into interdisciplinary work, in an ongoing collaboration with choreographer Adriano Bolognino on Chopin – Into Us, a Chopin recital reimagined for modern dance.

He has been mentored by Boris Berman, Benedetto Lupo, Ronan O’Hora and Julia Mustonen-Dahlkvist, earning a Master of Music from Yale University and graduating with highest honors from the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.
He has been awarded the Medal of the President of the Italian Republic in recognition of his outstanding artistic achievements.
